Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2011:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors  ( Feb 21, 2011)

Some of the reasons why BMO Financial Group was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2011:
  • has a long history of championing diversity and inclusion initiatives, and has managed a diversity and workplace equity office for nearly twenty years
  • continues to partner with Lime Connect to provide scholarships and internships to post-secondary students with disabilities, offering permanent employment upon graduation
  • maintains strong relationships with several post-secondary institutions, recently contributing funds towards the construction of a First Peoples House at the University of Victoria
  • also developed a scholarship and internship program for Aboriginal students, providing summer internship opportunities and offers of permanent employment upon graduation
  • is one of the founding members of the Canadian Board Diversity Council (CBDC), which works towards increasing female representation on Canadian boards
  • offers pre-employment training to persons with disabilities who have little to no work experience in partnership with JVS Toronto and Job Opportunity Information Network (JOIN)
  • is a true Canadian leader in promoting diversity in the workplace and is also the founding sponsor of "Canada's Best Diversity Employers" competition -- taking the evolutionary step in encouraging and recognizing other organizations (including other banks) for their own diversity initiatives

Founding Sponsor, "Canada's Best Diversity Employers"

BMO is the founding sponsor of the Canada's Best Diversity Employers competition, which is managed by Mediacorp Canada Inc. in partnership with the diversity consulting firm TWI Inc. This project recognizes organizations across Canada that have developed exemplary diversity and inclusiveness initiatives, with the goal of encouraging other organizations to follow their lead. As the project's exclusive sponsor, BMO has taken itself out of consideration for the competition and does not take part in the selection of winners, which is done by Mediacorp editors. BMO's generosity makes this competition possible, funding the costs of managing the annual competition as part of its longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. In the interest of fairness, Mediacorp editors have also reviewed BMO's own diversity programs so that readers interested in the competition can understand the key aspects of BMO's inclusiveness initiatives.

"To be a true leader, a "Best Diversity Employer," means having an unwavering commitment to create a workplace where every single person, regardless of their background or identity, has the opportunity to turn their potential into performance."
Lynn Roger, Senior Vice President, Talent Strategies and Executive Resourcing, BMO Financial Group
