Some of the reasons why Centre for Addiction and Mental Health / CAMH was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2012:
recently created a designated role to manage Aboriginal recruitment and retention initiatives as well as engage the broader Aboriginal community
established an employment equity plan and diversity and inclusion strategy, focusing this year on disability and accessibility, and are currently developing a formal policy and guidebook to educate staff on accessibility and accommodation awareness
employees are required to complete a full-day of diversity training which includes queer inclusion, anti-stigma of persons with mental health or addictions issues and Aboriginal approaches to healing, to name a few
additional training is available for managers on topics such as bias-free recruitment and managing diverse teams
maintains employee working groups for women, LGBT, people of colour, and "the usual suspects", for staff with experience of addiction or mental health -- these groups advise on the development of diversity programs
