Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2013:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors   (Feb 18, 2013)

Some of the reasons why Corus Entertainment Inc. was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2013:
  • maintains a formal employment equity plan, a diversity and inclusion policy and an equity and diversity committee comprised of management, non-management and unionized employees
  • recently launched the "Corus Women's Leadership Network" (CWLN) to support the personal and professional success of female employees -- the network aims to host social or professional development events on a quarterly basis
  • also in support of the development of female employees, manages a "Women in Leadership" program, a two-day personal development workshop for female supervisors and managers to network and discuss personal and professional issues including advancing in the workplace and achieving work-life balance
  • in partnership with Canadian Women in Communications (CWC), created the "Corus Digital Media and Technology Accelerator Program", a six-day training program offered in conjunction with Ryerson University to provide education on new media to women in management roles
  • forwards job vacancies to a range of community organizations including the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), ACCES Employment and Career Edge, to name a few
  • is a member of SABAR, the Strategic Alliance of Broadcasters for Aboriginal Reflection, which works to increase the representation of Aboriginals working within the media industry -- the company also works with post-secondary institutions to provide scholarships and internship opportunities to Aboriginal students
  • stations partner with local universities and colleges such as the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and Mount Royal University to provide bursaries to Aboriginal students and students with disabilities
"I have been with the Diversity Committee since 2003. The committee strives to educate all employees about the benefits of inclusion among visible minorities working at Corus. Corus Entertainment stands to benefit from new perspectives and ideas that visible minorities bring to the company. I also have seen a significant growth in women taking leadership roles in the company over the last 5 years."
Suresh F., Employee & Diversity Committee Member
