  • established a national diversity and inclusion committee in 2006 to manage the development of diversity programs and initiatives -- each office also has a designated diversity lead to support initiatives on a locally
  • provides pro-bono legal services to Pride at Work Canada, a non-profit corporation that provides support to LGBT professionals in the Canadian workplace, and participates in events organized by "Out On Bay Street"
  • manages the "Vault Women's Initiative" to provide female employees with a forum for casual and formal interaction -- also offers workshops in which women in senior roles answer questions and present on topics of interest
  • the Toronto office organizes "Women Partners' Lunches" to help female partners connect on a regular basis and the Calgary office hosts "Women Associate's Lunches" three times per year to provide younger employees with an opportunity to meet informally and discuss personal and professional matters
  • the firm is also a member of various community organizations that support the professional advancement of female employees, including Catalyst, the Women's Business Network and the Women's Executive Network, to name a few
  • requires all employees and partners to complete diversity and inclusiveness training and is planning e-learning diversity courses for the future
  • the Calgary office participates in the Law Society of Alberta's Aboriginal summer student program, hiring two students per year -- if the term is completed satisfactorily, an offer of full-time employment usually follows
  • in association with the Black Business and Professional Association, manages a national scholarship program for students who are interested in pursuing legal studies
  • in partnership with the University of British Columbia, published a study of diversity and inclusion matters within the legal industry, entitled "Diversity in the Law: Arguments and Perspectives"
