In 2007, Ernst&Young launched a firm-wide campaign to communicate their inclusiveness philosophy and goals to all employees. The brochure entitled "Inclusiveness Matters", described the firm's commitment to inclusiveness in the workplace and its importance to their overall company goals.
In that same year, Ernst&Young organized a live webcast on inclusiveness, with the firm leadership -- including the Chairman and CEO, and managing partners -- speaking frankly about the significance of inclusiveness from their perspective. The unique forum also provided an opportunity for employees to ask questions on gender equity, diversity and related topics.
The firm also created a unique "Inclusiveness Champion" role to participate in the roundtable performance review process. Chosen by senior managers, executive directors, and partners across Canada, Inclusiveness Champions ensure that performance ratings for their office or group are equitable and fair, and that those ratings fully support each employee's career development goals.
Senior-level employees can also attend a series of inclusiveness workshops on topics such as the distinction between equality and equity, how to promote an inclusive workplace culture, and the impact of discrimination on respect in the workplace.
"Participating in the Canadian Ethnic Diversity Task Force has given me [the chance to work with] senior executives, and also reinforced the firm's commitment to diversity for me. It starts at the top. At Ernst & Young, I really believe we not only speak about the importance of a diverse and inclusive workforce, we actually see the actions and results."
