Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2013:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors   (Feb 18, 2013)

Some of the reasons why The Home Depot Canada was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2013:
  • established the Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Council in 2010, which meets on a quarterly basis to discuss progress towards achieving diversity goals
  • also launched a "Women in Leadership" initiative in 2010 to improve career opportunities for female employees and provide sessions on personal and professional development
  • based on the success of this initiative, the company launched the Orange Women's Network, a resource group for female employees, and is also working with a third party organization to create an online development and group coaching program
  • in addition, created an accelerated leadership development program for women in support of the advancement of female employees
  • launched additional employee resources groups for persons with disabilities and LGBT associates -- the LGBT network recently organized an internal speaker series to help raise awareness of issues faced by LGBT employees, as well as casual networking events in the GTA to help employees connect
  • to support of the employment efforts of persons with disabilities, individual stores partner with various local community organizations including Job Opportunity Information Network (JOIN), Chrysalis, DeafBlind Ontario and March of Dimes
  • in the past year, the diversity and inclusion team facilitated planning sessions with each of the company's employee resource groups to review their plans, priorities and mandate
"What do I like about Home Depot? With my disability I have lots of health problems but they are the most understanding company I have ever worked for. If you need help, they will help you. No other company does that. As a diverse company they really help disabled people to succeed. I am very proud to work here."
Rod H., Employee
"I think one of the biggest parts of the [Associate Resource Groups] has been opening up discussion. The basis of diversity is respect. We're not trying to change anyone's fundamental beliefs, we are encouraging conversation about differences. Through the group, we're giving people the tools to have the conversations in a way that is grounded in respect."
Kathryn A., Store Manager
