To support the career development of women employees in junior and middle management positions, HSBC hosts a series of popular women's networking events. Launched in 2004, the HSBC women's networking committee provides mentoring opportunities to women employees, and publishes a newsletter to inform members of upcoming activities.
HSBC also manages a recruitment program for members of designated group, which is designed to groom qualified, talented prospective full-time employees for potential job openings at the bank. Candidates are offered short-term job opportunities until a suitable permanent position becomes available.
In addition, the bank recruits disabled persons and Aboriginal people through working partnerships with community organizations, job shadowing and pre-employment programs as well as through job fairs and recruitment advertising in target publications.
"I find HSBC's mentoring program [for women employees] to be one of the bank's most valuable initiatives. It not only provides participants with an informal support network that promotes career development and succession, but it also helps individuals to more successfully integrate into the bank's culture."
