A few years ago, Intuit Canada established Intuit Pride, a company-wide employee resource group for employees who are LGBT or are interested in learning more about LGBT issues. Today, the Intuit Pride network offers mentoring and networking opportunities, as well as a safe place to discuss the concerns of LGBT individuals in the workplace and in the community.
Informal brown-bag information sessions are held every month, and group members can communicate with each other and their colleagues on an ongoing basis through the Intuit Pride blog. The group also builds diversity awareness throughout the organization by educating colleagues about the LGBT community.
Intuit Pride is open to all employees who want to learn more about the LGBT community in support of their family and friends. The group's Edmonton chapter recently hosted a company-wide event on how to support LGBT youth "coming out" in their communities. The event featured speakers from a national charitable organization (PFLAG Canada) that was founded by parents who wanted to help themselves and other family members understand their non-heterosexual children.
"Since the network started, I have had the pleasure of attending several events which included topics around coming out, wills and
estates planning, and stress around the holidays!... It's been even more gratifying to see the growth of non-gay supportive members:
this has definitely made our network richer."
