Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2013:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors   (Feb 18, 2013)

Some of the reasons why KPMG LLP was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2013:
  • manages a national diversity advisory board, chaired by the firm's CEO -- the board meets on a quarterly basis to discuss the firm's national diversity, equity and inclusion strategy
  • also manages a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) team, which recently created a new retention of diverse talent strategy -- the team has also formed a diversity speaker series committee to support employees who have expressed interest in organizing information sessions based on their particular background
  • has maintained a Women's Interchange Network (WIN) since 2004 to provide support to female employees as well as opportunities to network across the firm
  • in the past year, WIN@Leadership partnered with MicroSkills to host a one-day event in support of the entrepreneurial efforts of women and also created a career sponsorship program to help increase the representation of women in management positions -- program participants provide sponsorship and guidance to one female partner that has the potential to become a senior leader
  • launched the AdaptAbility Network to provide support for persons with disabilities -- the network recently organized awareness events and activities in recognition of Mental Health Week and are developing training sessions to help managers identify signs and symptoms of mental health
  • partners with the Job Opportunity Information Network (JOIN), which supports the employment efforts of persons with disabilities -- ensures jobs are posted with JOIN and is currently developing a program to designate work opportunities for the disabled community
  • requires all employees to complete mandatory diversity in the workplace training, which has customized sections for partners, managers, and staff, and also provides bias-free interview training for employees involved in the recruitment process, as well as information on mental health and accommodation
  • manages several people networks including the East Asian network and Hispanic Latin American Network, and Pride@KPMG, a network for LGBT employees
"I wanted to start a Hispanic network when I moved to Canada and KPMG provided me with all the resources I needed to organize business and cultural activities for my Hispanic community. I am now an active member of KPMG’s Diversity Council and the Ibero-America Network, as well as co-chair of KPMG’s AdaptAbility Network, focused on KPMG people living with disabilities and their allies. I love working at KPMG because I have access to equal opportunities for development and advancement and receive complete respect and support as an individual.”
Jose C., Senior Principal, Risk Management
