By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors  ( Feb 20, 2012)

Some of the reasons why Loblaw Companies Limited was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2012:
  • manages an inclusion council comprised of employees from all business levels -- the council establishes goals and creates working committees to oversee the implementation and monitor the progress towards those goals
  • launched Women@Loblaw network, an online networking site that provides support for female employees through professional development workshops and informal mentoring
  • in the past year, launched a Women@Loblaw National Conference to bring female employees from different levels of the company together and provide an opportunity to network and share experiences
  • works with Ability Edge to identify candidates as well as with Social Capital Partners in the development of a pilot program to increase representation of employees with disabilities
  • partners with Equitek to post job vacancies and has job advertisements translated and inserted as part of product flyers in order to attract ethnic applicants
  • stores are active in their local community, participating in a variety of community events including the Aboriginal Human Resources Council's Inclusion Works event and career fair, recruitment events organized by G-Force in Toronto and Montréal, as well as the Rainbow Employment Network's job fair in Toronto
  • two stores in British Columbia participated in Access Abbotsford's "Measuring Up" program, which asks persons with disabilities to judge for themselves whether an employer meets accessibility requirements
