Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2013:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors   (Feb 18, 2013)

Some of the reasons why Loblaw Companies Limited was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2013:
  • manages an inclusion council which is responsible for creating the company's inclusion strategy and providing updates to the President
  • recently established a diversity champions network to oversee the creation and promotion of inclusive practices -- champions are trained and mentored by senior members of the inclusion council and are divided into working groups that focus on supporting particular goals of the council
  • the diversity champions are currently working on a number of initiatives including the development of a recruitment plan for persons with disabilities, identifying community partnerships to facilitate job placement opportunities and the creation of a committee focused on ensuring compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
  • is also developing an in-house resource group for LGBT employees as well as a strategy to raise awareness of challenges and issues faced by LGBT individuals
  • launched Women@Loblaw, an online networking site that provides support for female employees through professional development workshops and informal mentoring opportunities
  • organized the Women@Loblaw National Conference to bring female employees from different levels of the company together and provide an opportunity to network and share experiences -- are also planning a second conference targeted specifically at female store managers
  • partners with Equitek to post job vacancies and also works with Microskills, Career Bridge and Ability Edge to provide employment opportunities to diverse groups
  • recently created a new diversity and inclusion website and training workshops for the inclusion council and diversity champions -- and also conducted focus groups with various employee networks to help increase the understanding of their needs
