Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2013:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors   (Feb 18, 2013)

Some of the reasons why Ontario Public Service was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2013:
  • established a diversity office to oversee the development of diversity and inclusion programs and requires each ministry to develop and implement individual diversity and accessibility plans
  • created a multi-year accessibility plan that outlines a strategy to integrate accessibility into all core businesses and recently launched a campaign to increase awareness of accessibility issues
  • also manages an Accessibility Leadership Council, a consultative body comprised of deputy ministers, and a Disabilities Advisory Council, to provide employees' perspectives on the needs of persons with disabilities
  • in partnership with Ability Edge, provided 9-month internship opportunities to persons with disabilities, and have also worked with the Disability Network to organize mental health awareness events
  • OPS' pride network launched a positive space campaign to support the creation of a welcoming workplace and to encourage employees to bring their "whole self" to work
  • in addition to diversity related commitments in performance contracts, all deputy ministers are engaged in reciprocal mentoring with members of under represented groups in senior or management-level roles
  • this program was recently expanded to include assistant deputy ministers and directors, demonstrating a commitment to diversity at the highest levels
