Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2011:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors  ( Feb 21, 2011)

Some of the reasons why Royal Bank of Canada was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2011:
  • has maintained a diversity leadership council for over a decade, which is chaired by RBC's President and CEO -- the council meets quarterly to discuss the bank's current diversity initiatives and recently launched a three-year diversity plan
  • created a diversity intranet site for employees, complete with self-study materials and diversity related articles
  • held a webcast for managers on developing an inclusive workplace for employees with disabilities, which included interactive discussions and employee coaching tips
  • offers employees support through several resource networks, including REACH, for employees with disabilities, and PRIDE, for employees who identify as LGBT
  • manages the "Pursue Your Potential" (PyP) program for disabled or Aboriginal job seekers, providing them with coaching, support, and guidance throughout the recruitment process -- in partnership with Ability Edge and Career Bridge, the PyP program offers applicants paid internships, which usually leads to an offer of full-time employment if positions are available
  • created a mentoring program entitled "Diversity Dialogues", which pairs mid-level employees of designated groups with a mentor in a senior leadership position
"Being part of the Royal Eagles (RBC's Aboriginal employee resource group) has given me a sense of belonging and has helped to instill an even greater pride in my Aboriginal heritage. I have had the opportunity to meet many staff across the country in all areas of the organization."
Carrie S., Program Coordinator, Aboriginal Markets
"One of the best experiences of my career to date was being part of RBC's Diversity Dialogue Reciprocal Mentorship program. It gave me a remarkable insight not just into ways to promote diversity and inclusion but also into what it takes to advance to senior positions within the bank."
Cheryl T., Head, Program Management Office, Contact Centres
