Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2011:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors  ( Feb 21, 2011)

Some of the reasons why SaskPower Corporation was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2011:
  • maintains a diversity department that develops programs and initiatives to improve workplace diversity and inclusion -- also manages a diversity committee which meets six times during the year and acts as an advisory body to the department
  • the committee consults with four employee affinity groups, Aboriginals, employees with disabilities, visible minorities, and females, on related policy and programs -- a group for LGBT employees is in the works, pending employee interest
  • the department organizes a one day conference for senior management, human resource professionals, and personnel involved in the recruitment process, to discuss diversity -- this year, the conference addressed issues of micro-inequities, how they form and how they impact employees
  • shares job postings with 40 community organizations to ensure vacancies reach applicants from all walks of life
  • manages an Aboriginal recruitment strategy, which includes a designated recruiter of Aboriginal descent and Aboriginal awareness training for employees
"I became involved with Network of Employees for Disabilities (NED) wanting to make the employment experiences for the next generation of employees with hearing impairments easier. I wanted to educate the SaskPower workforce that employing people who are hard of hearing can be a win /win situation for everybody. I believe initiatives hosted by NED have had a positive impact on our culture because the number of employees who are hard of hearing or deaf working for SaskPower has doubled in the past few years."
