Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2013:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors   (Feb 18, 2013)

Some of the reasons why SaskPower was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2013:
  • SaskPower organizes a variety of diversity events throughout the year including conferences, lunch and learn sessions and "Palooza", a week-long celebration of diversity
  • maintains a diversity department that is responsible for developing programs and initiatives to improve workplace diversity and inclusion
  • also manages a diversity committee which meets six times during the year and acts as an advisory body to the department -- the committee consults with five employee affinity groups, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, members of the LGBT community, women and employees
  • the Aboriginal affinity group has since become an Aboriginal Relations department, with a designated recruiter of Aboriginal descent and Aboriginal awareness training for employees
  • the affinity group for women recently organized a luncheon speaker series to provide female employees with an opportunity to be mentored or coached by current female leaders within the organization
  • the network for persons with disabilities hosted a second conference on disabilities and engaged provincial government ministries and crown corporations for the event
  • participated in the Canadian University Queer Services Conference, a national five day conference that brings together members of the LGBT community from across the country
"Diversity initiatives at SaskPower have positively affected the confidence I have to go after my dreams. I have been provided a safe and a supportive network where I can voice and overcome my fears. The Women's Resource Group (WRG) has also helped me to recognize the skills I need to move towards my goals and connected me with people who could mentor and coach me in my development."
