Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2013:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors   (Feb 18, 2013)

Some of the reasons why SaskTel was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2013:
  • manages employee resource groups for Aboriginals, visible minorities, persons with disabilities and younger workers -- the groups provide forums for informal networking as well as support for professional development
  • the resource group for persons with disabilities recently participated in a mentoring program for youth with visual impairments and recently consulted on technical issues affecting SaskTel customers with disabilities
  • the organization maintains a hiring strategy for persons with disabilities and conducts information sessions and pre-employment workshops in partnership with the South Saskatchewan Independent Living Committee
  • in partnership with the Saskatchewan Abilities Council and the Regina Autism Resource Center, created the "Supported Employment" program to identify candidates with cognitive disabilities to work at SaskTel -- the organization has since employed four individuals and are currently working to formalize the partnership and program
  • maintains a diversity department and created a formal business case for diversity as well as a diversity and inclusion strategy that outlines goals and program development
  • created an Aboriginal recruitment strategy in 2009 to increase the number of Aboriginal employees in the workforce -- the strategy includes partnerships with First Nations Bands, Tribal Councils and Aboriginal employment agencies, attending career fairs in Prince Albert and North Battleford and participating in networking events hosted by the Aboriginal Government Employee Network
  • in partnership with the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT), created scholarship and summer employment opportunities for Aboriginal students -- also works with the University of Saskatchewan's Indigenous Student Society to provide pre-employment workshops
