Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2012:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors  ( Feb 20, 2012)

Some of the reasons why SaskTel was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2012:
  • maintains a diversity department and created a formal business case for diversity as well as a diversity and inclusion strategy that outlines goals and program development
  • created an Aboriginal recruitment strategy in 2009 to increase the number of Aboriginal employees in the workforce -- the strategy includes partnerships with First Nations Bands, Tribal Councils and Aboriginal employment agencies, attending career fairs in Prince Albert and North Battleford and participating in networking events hosted by the Aboriginal Government Employee Network
  • developed a hiring strategy for persons with disabilities and conducts pre-employment workshops in partnership with the South Saskatchewan Independent Living Committee
  • in addition, partners with the Saskatchewan Abilities Council to offer summer employment and internship opportunities for persons with disabilities
  • also in partnership with the Council, created an employment pilot program with intensive job coaching for persons with cognitive disabilities
  • recently approved $1 million program to help Aboriginal students and students with disabilities access employment through a fully funded 8-month internship program
  • offers support to employees through a variety of employee resource groups for Aboriginals, visible minorities, persons with disabilities and younger workers
  • works with post-secondary institutions such as First Nations University and the University of Saskatchewan, to provide Aboriginal students with career counselling and employment workshops
