Scotiabank Group
Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2009:
By Rachel Caballero and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors  (Mar 9, 2009)

Some of the reasons why Scotiabank Group was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2009:
  • operates a website and networking series for women employees, and regularly measures its progress toward women's representation targets in senior-level positions
  • includes a diversity component in their recruitment, interview and selection training program for hiring managers and recruiters
  • sets recruitment targets for Aboriginal employees, and offers seminars on Aboriginal inclusion in the workforce at their Toronto offices
  • has a designated accommodation fund and accessibility portal on the company intranet site
  • developed a disability support management team to develop and provide programs, resources, training materials, and technology to help disabled employees
  • manages a special fund to support job applicants and employees with disabilities
  • works with employment services to recruit employees from diversity groups, especially disabled employees

 Supporting Women in Financial Services

With women comprising 70% of their total Canadian workforce, and just over 50% of its management staff, Scotiabank Group has established itself as a leading employer for women in the financial services industry.

Through their "Advancement of Women" initiative, Scotiabank has sought to attract, retain and support the career development of women employees through projects such as the "ScotiaWomen's Connection" online resources guide, as well as quarterly networking sessions for women employed at all levels within the bank.

The bank also measures its women's workforce representation targets on an ongoing basis, ensuring that managers and senior executives are accountable for the Scotiabank's progress in this area by integrating these measures into individual performance review processes.

Scotia Women's Connection Networking series have been a remarkable way to meet new peers, learn tips about networking, and also have an opportunity to get acquainted first-hand with fellow Scotiabank women who have broken through the corporate glass ceiling.
