Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2013:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors   (Feb 18, 2013)

Some of the reasons why Shell Canada Limited was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2013:
  • formed a country-wide network that meets on a quarterly basis to discuss current diversity and inclusion initiatives and share best practices and recently launched a cross-regional diversity and inclusion week across Canada, Brazil and the United States, which included events such as town hall presentations, panels that featured senior management and lunch and learn sessions
  • offers support to employees from all walks of life through several in-house employee resource networks including AbNet for Aboriginals, Women's Network for female employees, AfNet for employees of African heritage, the New Professional's Network for younger workers, and recently created Hispanet for employees of Hispanic heritage and AsiaNet for employees of Asian heritage
  • manages an extensive two-day career development program to help female employees identify and achieve personal and professional goals as well as provide opportunities to network
  • is also committed to advancing female representation amongst leadership by ensuring the inclusion of a shortlisted female candidate for vacancies in mid to senior level management
  • female employees participate as mentors for the Lilith Professional Program, a network of businesses and academic partners that design and deliver professional development programs and provide mentoring opportunities for women working in Western Canada
  • in addition to mandatory diversity and inclusiveness training, provides a two-day diversity and inclusion skills workshop for diversity and human resources personnel
  • also provides Aboriginal awareness training to employees, which includes topics such as history, culture, and the traditional values and beliefs of Aboriginal peoples
  • offers scholarships to individuals who pursue courses in Aboriginal Leadership at the Banff Centre and recently attended the Inclusion Works conference, a national event for Aboriginal youth
  • consulted with employees, religious leaders and architects in the creation of a meditation and reflection centre to meet employees' diverse religious and spiritual needs -- the centre also contains a washing facility for those who require ritual washing before prayer
