Chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2013:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors   (Feb 18, 2013)

Some of the reasons why TD Bank Group was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2013:
  • established a formal diversity leadership council to oversee the development and implementation of a diversity and inclusion strategy -- the council also maintains sub-committees which focus on the targeted recruitment of five main employee groups
  • manages a range of employee resource groups including the LGBTA Pride Network for LGBT employees, Black Employee Community Network, Ability Network for persons with disabilities, Aboriginal Employee Circle and Chinese, Korean, South Asian and Hispanic Community Networks
  • the groups hosted over 50 networking events in the past year, including lunch and learn sessions for visible minority employees, local awareness events to promote LGBT inclusion and disability forums to increase understanding of invisible disabilities and discuss ways to create accessible work environments
  • created a "Women in Leadership Connections" website to replace the previous women's network site -- the network has multiple chapters across the country with approximately 2,000 members
  • in partnership with Ability Edge, offers internship opportunities for persons with disabilities, and works with Lime Connect to provide summer internship and scholarship opportunities for third year university students with disabilities
  • recently created a group mentoring program for employees who are visible minorities, women and LGBT, and are currently developing a national group mentoring initiative for Aboriginals as well as persons with disabilities
  • attends career fairs targeted to Aboriginals including the Aboriginal Human Resource Council's "Inclusion Works" conference, and engaged schools such as Ch'nook School of Business at the University of British Columbia to host career workshops for Aboriginal students
"The thing that I love about TD’s corporate diversity team is that they really get the business opportunity behind pursuing a diverse workforce – it isn’t about quotas – it’s about getting great people! When I decided to re-enter the work force after a voluntary 6 year absence to stay home and raise my kids, I felt confident about my skills… but less confident that employers would take me seriously. TD’s Back-to-Business program was really a game-changer in allowing me to onboard my career in a meaningful and substantial way [...] In turn, they have acquired an experienced group of women who are keenly motivated to contribute to TD’s success."
Anne P., Associate, Marketing Planning
