Some of the reasons why TELUS Corporation was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2013:
  • established a diversity and inclusiveness council, comprised of employees from all levels of the company, and a diversity and inclusion office to oversee strategy development -- also created an executive steering committee to support the development of a business case for diversity
  • recently, the company produced its first annual report on diversity and inclusion, which includes the diversity and inclusion business case, vision and Telus' accomplishments since 2004
  • manages "Connections", a national women's employee network which is comprised of over 3,000 members -- the group provides employees with unique opportunities to attend professional development courses and workshops on topics such as leadership, communication and work-life balance
  • members can participate in a virtual in-house mentoring program that pairs women with senior leadership for a six-month period
  • members may also participate in a mentoring program organized by the Women's Executive Network (WXN), which matches employees to the winners of the "WXN Top 100 Most Powerful Women" award
  • recently introduced "CHLOE Awards" to recognize female employees who have made significant contributions to advance the career development of women
  • created "Eagles", an employee resource group for Aboriginal peoples -- group members recently attended the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation's career fair to connect with Aboriginal youth
  • also partnered with the First Nations Employment Society (FNES) to attract Aboriginal applicants and invited job coaches and trainers to Telus' office to learn firsthand about the company's programs and policies
  • manages the "Persons with Different Abilities" network, to provide support to employees with disabilities and "Spectrum", a forum for LGBT employees to openly network and promote inclusive policies and practices
