Under the guidance of a special steering committee, consisting of external advisors and employee representatives, WorkSafe BC launched a pay equity review project to measure the gender neutrality of their job evaluation processes. As a result of this review, the committee determined that their processes did not evaluate physical demands and working conditions in an equitable manner, failing to acknowledge the sensory and mental demands specific to jobs more commonly performed by women. All jobs were subsequently re-evaluated based on the committee's findings, with rates of pay adjusted to ensure that the physical, sensory and mental demands of all job classifications are measured on a fair and equitable basis.
WorkSafe BC is also focused on increasing the representation of women in senior leadership roles within the company. The agency encourages more women employees to enroll in an extensive leadership development program, and their efforts are paying off with the majority of program participants being women employees.
