Some of the reasons why Davis + Henderson, Limited Partnership was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2011):
hired an outside firm to conduct an environmental audit in 2007, helping to develop a roadmap for the firm's strategy to reach its goal of sustainable and environmentally sound business practices and regularly conducts in-house audits to monitor it waste and recycling efforts
a leading paper consumer that has moved to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper products for the majority of its cheques -- and is the only cheque printer to receive Chain-of-Custody certification from the FSC
has moved to vegetable and soy-based inks in its printing operations, recyclable packaging material for all cheque shipments and introduced 100 percent recycled paper for all photocopy paper at all of its facilities
is supporting clean and renewable energy production through the purchasing of energy needs through Bullfrog Power at several of its facilities -- and has set-up a discounted employee purchase program to encourage employees to purchase green energy for their homes through Bullfrog Power
has published a quarterly "ecoWise" report since 2007 that highlights ongoing environmental initiatives and helps to educate and encourage employees to adopt green ideas for the workplace and the home
employees have established an "Environmental Team" that consists of members from across the country to manage and promote its in-house programs -- such as the recently introduced after hours lighting program to ensure that all lights are shut off between 1:00am and 6:00am during weekdays, and completely off during weekends
every year for the past four years, employees celebrate Earth Week with a variety of fun and educational activities, including an incandescent light bulb exchange, a battery recycling drop, a litter-less lunch challenge, and a wear only green for a day to encourage donations to a tree planting program
