Some of the reasons why Enbridge Inc. was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2011):
established a climate task force back in 1999 (long before it was necessary to do such) -- which was renamed the Climate Change Subcommittee in 2002 and tasked with the goal of measuring the company's carbon footprint
has since made significant investments in alternative energy generation, including six wind farm projects in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta (that can provide enough electricity to power over 173,000 homes), an 80 megawatt solar array in Sarnia, Ontario (that can power more than 12,800 homes) and unique heat recovery facilities that convert was heat from its natural gas pipeline turbines and convert it into electricity (enough to power approximately 20,000 homes)
recently formed an employee-led Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Employee Advisory Council that consists of 30 employees from across the company who advise on a range of economic, social and environmental issues
is a leading public advocate for energy conservation with numerous programs to encourage its customers to conserve and use energy more efficiently
having set the goal to reduce its own greenhouse gas emissions, the company boasts greenhouse gas emissions that are 20 percent below its 1990 levels
continues to work towards further reducing its carbon footprint to zero through a number of planned initiatives, such as conserving forest land (for each tree removed due to its operations the company will plant a tree) and for every kilowatt of power consumed, the company intends to generate a kilowatt of renewable power
in celebration of its 60th anniversary, the company planted 60,000 trees in the communities where it operates across North America
