and kicks off Earth Week every year by encouraging employees to bring in their old electronics for proper recycling -- and offers the chance for employees to tour the nearby electronic recycling facility
as a leading sponsor of the annual "Waste Reduction Week", the company and its employees work in partnership with schools, municipalities and other businesses across the country to challenge, educate and encourage Canadians to incorporate environmental considerations into their day-to-day choices
has established a complete design strategy for its new products that seeks to decrease the impact of their products across the entire electronic life cycle, including materials selected, energy used, manufacturing processes, packaging, distribution, energy and resources used during its useful life, followed by end-of-life management
through its "Planet Partners" program, the company recycles its original inkjet and laser cartridges as well as all brands of computer hardware and rechargeable batteries -- and ensures that all returned products are recycled properly
in addition to the "HP Eco Highlights" label, which provides a simple and easy-to-read description that helps customers understand the environmental attributes of its products, the company has introduced new technologies that automatically shut down to reduce phantom power draws
encourages employees to leave their cars at home by staying home themselves through a longstanding commitment to telecommuting -- and even provides preferred parking for carpoolers and shower facilities for bicycle commuters at some locations
the head office is situated on 18 acres of land adjacent to an environmentally-protected ravine, where the company planted more than 26,000 trees and shrubs to enhance the surrounding woodlands
inside, the head office features and number of energy saving and environmentally-friendly features, including motion-sensitive lighting, rain-sensitive lawn sprinkling system (ensuring the lawn is watered only when needed), state-of-the-art heating and air conditioning systems and even a partial green roof
