Some of the reasons why LoyaltyOne Inc. was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2013):
operates a unique 50,000 square foot state-of-the-art customer call centre in Mississauga that features one of the largest rooftop solar photovoltaic installations in Canada with 800 solar panels capable of generating 165 kilowatts of power -- the building is designed Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold standards, has been set-up under the province's feed-in-tariff (FIT) program and provides enough electricity to power 16 homes
the facility also features a number of other unique energy saving and environmentally sensitive features, including a solar hot water system, solar-powered signage, solar tubes to bring more natural lighting inside as well as recycled content in construction materials (where possible) and low emissions materials used in construction
manages a formal work-from-home program for some employees, providing state-of-the-art workstations and specialized telecommuter training for those who exercise this option -- over 230 of its call centre employees are able to work from home, and practice a carbon-free commute
has three SMART Cars and one Toyota Prius available at the company's head office for employees (at no cost for employees) to use for out of office work meetings -- also gives its employees the opportunity to purchase electric scooters and transit passes at a discounted rate
also supports sustainable energy development through the extensive use of Bullfrog Power at its Calgary, Toronto and Mississauga locations
the company manages a line of environmental products under the "My Planet" brand that lets customers redeem their Air Miles for over 100 environmentally-friendly products and even donate to non-profit organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund
has an internal Social Responsibility committee comprised primarily of customer care employees that meet monthly to discuss and develop sustainable practices at the company -- some of the initiatives implemented include creating a free online board for employees wishing to list unwanted items, and organizing tree-planting events and waste awareness campaigns
