Some of the reasons why New Flyer Industries Canada ULC was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2011):
is a leading advocate for mass transportation, introducing new bus designs for mass transit providers across North America that incorporate electric trolley, clean diesel and hybrid technologies
maintains extensive metal recycling initiatives as part of its manufacturing process, recycling tonnes of aluminum, copper, steel and stainless steel every year and has established industrial waste reduction targets for all its facilities -- and has also established targets to reduce and recycle hazardous wastes, wood pallets, used oil products and cardboard
the company's successful reduction and recycling programs has led to attention from outside organizations, including the University of Manitoba's Environmental Engineering Department who wanted to see programs in action
has an in-house Environmental Coordinator who oversees the company's in-house initiatives, from a carpool program to developing a number of energy savings strategies, from shutting down unused computers and lights to reviewing manufacturing processes -- the company's carpool program has enjoyed incredible success, from 16 participants a few years ago to over 60 carpool groups today
is working in partnership with Minnesota-based Engineered Machine Products Inc., a new thermal cooling system for diesel and natural gas engines (called the Mini-Hybrid Thermal Cooling System) that helps to increase overall mileage and thus generate lower emissions through normal operations
recently provided BC Transit with 20 hydrogen fuel cell buses that were used at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, showcasing New Flyer's impressive Canadian technology to the world
