Some of the reasons why SAS Institute Canada, Inc. was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2009):

• constructed the first commercial office building in Canada that is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) registered in 2005 (with final certification pending)
• used 55% recyclable materials to build their showcase structure, which incorporates many energy-saving features that save up to 50% less energy than a traditional structure
• uses state-of-the-art water filters for its drinking water, thus avoiding the need for plastic bottles, and discourages the use of disposable paper plates and cutlery by replacing them with reusable dishes, glasses, cups and cultery
• donates used laptops and personal computers to schools and charitable organizations
• is currently investigating paper reduction strategies to make the office as paperless as possible
