Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc.
Chosen as one of Canada's Greenest Employers for 2011:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editor  ( Apr 20, 2011)

Some of the reasons why Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2011):
  • the company and its employees are strong supporters of Earth Day every year, which is actually defined as a month long event that includes a variety of environmental awareness activities, from support of Earth Hour to environmental trivia questions and children's activities for employees to take home
  • the company set a goal back in 2004 of sending zero waste to the landfill -- impressively, the company has consistently met this goal through extensive recycling, reusing, reducing and composting programs, with 96% of all waste recycled today
  • operates under a unique corporate environmental policy (called ECO PAK) that promotes environmental awareness, ensures compliance with all local, provincial and federal regulations, sets objectives and targets, and regularly assesses ongoing efforts
  • as part of its environmental policy, employees are encouraged to provide feedback and share their environmental suggestions through the company's unique "Kaizen Circles" -- with implemented suggestions earning employees "eco-points" that ultimately translate into financial donations to the Toyota Nature Centre at the Shades Mills Conservation Area
  • employees (and their families) started an onsite tree-planing nursery at the Cambridge facility in 2009 and more recently followed-up with a similar project at its Woodstock site -- planting over 460 trees as well as sending home one white spruce sapling for participating children to plant at home
  • employees have established a unique charity garden on the grounds that is tended to by volunteers -- the garden offers organic fruits and vegetables that are havested and donated to a local women and children's centre -- employees also gain some valuable gardening experience and knowledge that can be applied to their home gardens
