Chosen as one of Best Employers for New Canadians for 2013:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors   (Mar 11, 2013)

Some of the reasons why AltaGas Ltd. was selected as one of Best Employers for New Canadians 2013:
  • participates in the "Work Links" program organized by Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC), which provides new Canadian job-seekers with work placement terms of up to 12 weeks
  • also participates in ISC's Integrated Women's Mentorship Program and pairs work placement students with employees who provide support and guidance
  • in partnership with ISC, hosted a "Success Coaching" event, which included a presentation on AltaGas and the industry, group mentoring and a networking session for attendees
  • in an effort to create an inclusive work environment, requires all employees to attend training on respectful workplace practices
"I am directly involved in AltaGas' participation in the Workskills program through Calgary Immigrant Services, a program that provides work experience to participants and offers a win-win situation for the candidates and employer. Successful candidates receive full training and experience in the daily activities performed by members of my team and get Canadian energy-industry work experience in an office setting which challenges and develops their communication, teamwork and many other soft skills that are needed to be successful in an office environment in Canada. AltaGas benefits as the participants help with workload but also offer my team opportunities to grow and develop in their roles, ensuring that they can deliver the training to others while learning about cultural differences and how people learn in different ways at different times. AltaGas' team has had very positive experiences with the Workskills program and we grow professionally and personally as a result of our participation."
Corinne F., Manager, Meter Hub and Common Stream Operations
