Chosen as one of Best Employers for New Canadians for 2013:
By Kristina Leung and Richard Yerema, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors   (Mar 11, 2013)

Some of the reasons why CIBC / Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce was selected as one of Best Employers for New Canadians 2013:
  • the bank's Toronto office participates in the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council's (TRIEC) Mentoring Partnership -- the Montréal office also participates in the ALLIES National Mentoring Partnership to provide support to new Canadian job-seekers
  • in addition, the bank works with ACCES Employment and participates in their Speed Mentoring program which provides newcomers with informal training on resume development, communication skills and interview techniques
  • individual branches also participate in ACCES' Financial Services Connections Program (FSC) and host dedicated open house events and networking sessions
  • recently launched an in-house International Professionals Network to help new Canadian employees integrate into the workforce
  • partners with the World Education Services (WES) to evaluate the qualifications and credentials of internationally trained professionals
  • participated in a pilot program organized by Algonquin College to help internationally trained professionals bridge their finance credentials -- the Bank hosted students for the internship portion of the program
  • also provides internship opportunities to new Canadian job-seekers through the Career Bridge program
  • CIBC's online recruitment website includes a designated stream for job-seekers who are new to Canada and resources to support them through the recruitment process such as foreign credential assessment, language training and mentoring opportunities
"Despite more than 10 years service industry leadership experience and a Masters in Human Resources Management in Jamaica, I met with challenges in my job search when I immigrated to Canada in February 2010. ACCES Employment's Human Resources Connections and TRIEC's The Mentoring Partnership programs, along with my CIBC mentor's tenacious guidance, provided me with resources and networking opportunities that helped me acquire an internship with CIBC Human Resources through Career Bridge. This opened doors which have led to a permanent role as an Associate in CIBC's Human Resources Development Program (HRDP). I consider this a tremendous opportunity to continue my professional development and growth with CIBC. I plan to pay it forward by mentoring other skilled immigrants through The Mentoring Partnership."
