Some of the reasons why City of Mississauga was selected as one of Best Employers for New Canadians 2012:
in association with the Dufferin Peel Adult Learning Centre, hires new Canadians for an unpaid eight week term, and has offered some participants permanent positions within the City
participates in Career Bridge's internship program and has offered permanent employment to some participants upon successful completion of their term
also participates in "Engineering Connections", a program organized by ACCES Employment to help internationally trained engineers further develop their English language and communication skills
utilizes a third-party credential assessor, World Education Services (WES), to determine the education and credentials of internationally trained applicants
supports Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council's (TRIEC) Mentoring Partnership program and currently has ten employees who serve as mentors to new Canadians for a 4-month period
"After applying to many places in the first five months upon arriving in Canada, I received very little feedback and only a handful of interviews. My Career Bridge internship at the City of Mississauga gave me the opportunity to gain Canadian experience in a municipal organization and the chance to network and meet people. I'm so pleased to be one of the many participants in the internship program to be offered full time contract employment with my host organization."
