Some of the reasons why Mount Sinai Hospital was selected as one of Best Employers for New Canadians 2013:
  • created a formal Internationally Educated Professionals (IEP) committee, which is chaired by the Director of Organizational Development and Workforce Planning, and IEP strategy, which includes internship opportunities, mentoring programs and participation in career fairs
  • participates in Ryerson University's Internationally Educated Social Work Professionals Bridging Program and acts as a host employer for students to complete the work placement portion of the program
  • connects new Canadians to work placement and networking opportunities through it's participation in Career Bridge's internship program as well as the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council's (TRIEC) Mentoring Partnership
  • in partnership with the Hong Fook Mental Health Association, developed the "Assertive Community Treatment Team" program (ACTT), and provides in-house placement opportunities for recent immigrants
  • in collaboration with the University of Toronto and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), the ACTT provides mentoring to 5 to 6 international medical graduates each year
  • is currently pursuing a partnership with the Bridge Training Program for Internationally Educated Psychologists and Allied Mental Health Professionals to provide unpaid internship opportunities to program participants
  • supports the Centre for Internationally Educated Nurses (CARE4Nurses) project, a program to help nurses bridge international education and experience and prepare them for practice within Ontario -- the project also ensures participants have access to job postings and offers additional training resources, such as exam preparation and employment counselling
