The Regional Municipality of Halton (Halton Region) provides career-track, paid internships to internationally-educated jobseekers through the Career Bridge internship program. The Municipality has hosted interns in asset management, community relations, and planning/transportation services areas.
Halton Region also provides four-month mentorships to new Canadians through Job Connect, an employment program managed by the Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. Immigrants are matched with mentors who have a similar career and professional background. Mentors help mentees access professional networks, revise their resumes, and hone their interview skills. Halton Region has provided over 15 mentorship opportunities to new Canadians since the program's inception in 2005.
"As a Career Bridge intern at Halton Region, I value the experience I gained designing resources for various regional programs and services. It is very fulfilling to be a part of this initiative because it has helped me pursue my goals as a graphic designer."
