Some of the reasons why St. Michael's Hospital was selected as one of Best Employers for New Canadians 2013:
  • in association with the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC), developed the "Newcomer Volunteer Mentoring Program" to provide support to employees who are new to Canada
  • also manages a dedicated website for the recruitment of internationally educated professionals and forwards job vacancies to a variety of multicultural media outlets
  • in 2009, created an Internationally Educated Professionals (IEPs) Transition and Integration Program, funded by the Government of Ontario and Citizenship and Immigration Canada -- the program provides resources to IEP's who are in their first three years of employment such as communication skills training and opportunities for networking and mentoring
  • partnered with the Michener Institute to develop the "Perioperative Technical Assistant Program" to help internationally educated professionals gain work experience
  • also offers paid internship opportunities for new Canadians in association with Career Bridge
  • recently created a Program Coordinator role to manage the development of recruitment initiatives for internationally educated professionals -- uniquely, a Career Bridge intern is currently employed in this role
