The company's roots in Canada go back to the Norman S. Wright Company, which began as a medical sales company, primarily supplying medical equipment and supplies to the Canadian Armed Forces. In 1951, the company was acquired by New Jersey-based Becton, Dickinson and Company and operates today as BD Canada Inc. In a recent and unique international initiative, employees at BD Canada helped to raised money to purchase 13 incubators for neo-natal units in the African nation of Ghana. BD employee volunteers from around the world spent three weeks with staff at two healthcare clinics in Ghana, training local healthcare providers, building a new healthcare facility and upgrading medical laboratories.
