The Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) or Visiting Researcher position commencing on September 6, 2018, for a one-year term.


This position is directed to candidates who have a Ph.D. or ABD in real estate, geography, civil engineering, urban planning or a related field. Successful candidates will have an established record of research excellence and capacity for collaboration. Preferred areas of research interest would be smart cities, urban analytics, open data, open source tools for automated data collection, and machine learning. Applicants are expected to be well-versed in R, Python, or other similar tools for data harvesting and analysis using web-based APIs. Experience in blog (opinion) writing is also desirable.


The PDF will conduct research in applying state-of-the-art data science to collect, harvest, and analyze urban data related to housing markets, built form, transportation and mobility, and the spatial structure of urban economies. The PDF will work closely with graduate students and faculty members in the Department of Real Estate Management. The PDF will collaborate with the Open Data office at the City of Toronto and other cities to collaborate on data collection. The PDF will administer the day-to-day tasks for the Urban Analytics Institute (www.urbananalyticsinstitute.com) including, but not limited to, assisting with website maintenance, blog and report writing, and holding of research seminars.
