Coreboot Firmware Lead Engineer – 168642

The Role:

Exciting opportunity within the Client BIOS development team working on latest cutting-edge CPU/APU technologies.

In this role you will be responsible for leading the coreboot firmware support for AMD Chromebook customers. You will partner with their firmware development teams to successfully develop and bring to market their Chromebook products

The Person :

We are looking for a passionate, creative, team-oriented, and results-driven engineer who is ready to work in a fast-paced, cutting-edge technology environment. You will have a degree in computer engineering, software engineering, or electrical engineering and be a team player interested in improving the quality of firmware and increasing work efficiency. Strong communication skills are very important.

Ideal candidate has experience doing BIOS port, bring up, and support through product launch of Chromebooks/Coreboot based platforms. A candidate who has extensive experience doing the same on UEFI based platforms is also attractive.

Candidate should be a highly motivated, self-learning firmware engineer and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. In this role you will be working closely with the end customer debugging and resolving issues in a timely manner to assure they can make their schedules.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead team of coreboot firmware engineers to support porting, bring up and validation coreboot firmware for customer Chromebook motherboards.
  • Work closely with customers to address and resolve coreboot firmware issues.
  • Identify roadblocks and inefficiencies in existing ecosystems, plan and implement processes/ tools
  • Coordinate issue reproduction, issue triage, and remote debugging to accelerate bug fix turnaround time.
  • Communicate key status updates for high-impact issues
  • Work closely with supporting teams in design, diagnostics, emulation, firmware, and software to ensure readiness for first silicon arrival, enablement of IP functionality, and debug of critical features.Able to work to a deadline in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work to enable features, optimize firmware performance, and improve reliability.
  • Able to multi-task between several customers.

Experience :

  • Technical leadership in firmware development
  • Strong knowledge of Coreboot (preferred) or UEFI.

• BIOS, firmware, or system software development.

• Experience porting BIOSs to new platforms

• Experience performing system bring-ups

• Expert at C language; knowledge of assembly

• Familiarity with x86 and ARM CPU/APU architectures and associated compile tools

• Must have strong system debugging skills.

• Able to read and interpret system schematics.

  • Strong general Linux systems administration, software development, and fixing knowledge and experience.
  • Linux kernel development experience, either core kernel development or device driver development.

• Strong communication skills

Education:

  • BS-CS/BS-EE with 5+ years experience with BIOS, firmware or system software development
  • MS-CS/MS-EE with 3+ years experience; with BIOS, firmware, or system software development
