Project & Portfolio Management (PPM) Director

Reporting to the Project & Portfolio Management Lead (“PPM”), the Director of Portfolio Management ensures the leadership of the project portfolio prioritization based on business priorities, resource and capacity constraints, risk exposure, and interdependencies. The Director of Portfolio Management works in close collaboration with the Enterprise architecture team to ensure the alignment of the IT portfolio with the IT Strategy. This role enables organization strategic and tactical decision making through portfolio management governance, resource and capacity management, and enterprise reporting. 

The Director of Portfolio Management will interface with all delivery areas within IT (Business Solution Delivery Leads, IT Partners, Enterprise Architecture and Intake and Planners) and Canada Post and Purolator business (PMOs, Business Portfolio Managers and Corporate Finance)

Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Lead and be accountable for Integrated Portfolio Management for the entire GOC IT portfolio in collaboration with the Business Solution Delivery Leads and Enterprise Architecture
  • Drive and lead the IT portfolio prioritization process to prioritize a range of programs, projects, and other work within the portfolio with the goal of allocating resources to the activities that will generate the highest business value 
  • Provide alignment across the organization and the business partners regarding the prioritization of projects that impact IT Keep an integrated view of IT priorities 
  • Keep the enterprise view of resource and capacity 
  • Collaborate with Business Solution Delivery Leads to anticipate and manage the pipeline of opportunities 
  • Provide a central oversight on the composition of the portfolio, IT strategy alignment, highlight possible risks, issues, dependencies and potential implications. 
  • Perform impact assessment on the integrated view of the portfolio caused by project issues and change requests 
  • Develop, implement, ensure adoption and maintain PPM methodology, governance, standards and tools 
  • Lead the “IT Portfolio Integration Committee” 
  • Lead the Intake and Planners “Community of Practice”

Qualifications:

  • Project Management: experienced in managing large initiatives, multiple dependencies between projects; comprehensive knowledge of project management, continuous improvement and lean methodologies including Agile software development 
  • Project Management Office: experienced in PMO processes, governance and tools 
  • Value Management: can identify the effectiveness and completeness of business and technology strategies and ensure alignment with clients and other applicable cross-organization strategies 
  • Stakeholder Management: experienced in collaborating with multiple stakeholders internally and externally, keeping all stakeholders informed and ensuring that the messages are clear and understood; work with all types of organization stakeholders including senior executives, managers, business partners and technical staff
  • Communications and creative techniques and skills: strong written and verbal communication 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience of contributing to the success of a range of midsize-to-large initiatives with above-average levels of complexity and business criticality
  •  Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in Portfolio Management, methodologies, processes and tools 
  • Minimum 5-8 years’ experience managing large, complex investment budgets 
  • Experience working within an Agile Methodology

Education And Certification

Academic : University Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or equivalent (required), Graduate degree in Business Administration (MBA) (Asset) 

Certifications : PMP, ITIL foundations (Asset), Agile Scrum Master (Asset)
