Platform Board Validation Engineer


The Datacenter Graphics and Accelerated Computing Validation Team is looking for dynamic and energetic Board Validation Engineers to join our growing team. As a key contributor to the success of AMD’s IP, you will be part of a leading team to drive and enhance AMD’s abilities to deliver the highest quality, industry leading technologies used for Datacenter, Machine Learning, and High Performance Computing. This position involves a wide range of activities including high-speed system designs that push the limits of technology, designing and implementing test and characterization circuits in the lab, and debugging complicated system level problems. The team fosters and encourages continuous technical innovation to showcase successes as well as facilitate continuous career development.

key responsibilities:

  • Define, develop, and execute the Datacenter GPU pre-silicon and post-silicon PCBA validation test plans and schedule with cross-functional engagement from the power design team, board design team, program leads and program managers

  • Debug issues found during pre-silicon, bring-up, validation, and production phases of SOC programs

  • Lead collaborative test approach with multiple teams, and track test execution to make sure all features are validated and optimized on time

  • Review converter topologies and select power components like PWM controllers, power transistors and passive filter elements such as magnetics and capacitors

  • Review schematics as well as working with PCB layout and mechanical teams in developing robust validation plan.

  • Debug new designs and identify compliance to original specifications by comprehensive laboratory work executed in the context of exhaustive test plans

  • Support various teams with power related issues during the characterization and launch phases of new board development .

  • Provide meaningful execution and issue update to program management.

preferred experience

  • Excellent understanding in the fundamentals of power electronics with special emphasis on multiphase power converters

  • Demonstrated ability to work with oscilloscopes, multi-meters, current probes, electronic loads, and protocol analyzers as well as adept at intuitive reasoning to explain and correct unexpected results

  • Proficient at documenting experimental results in a structured manner for ease of reference

  • Ability to use circuit simulations tools such as PSPICE, LTSPICE, and SIMPLIS

  • FPGA and CPLD development knowledge

  • Knowledge of Schematic capture, circuit design, routing constraints definition, layout review and simulation

  • Power and signal integrity analysis

  • Familiarity with the low-speed industry standard protocols such as I2C, SPI, I3C, SVI2, SVI3 and for the high-speed industry standard protocols such as PCIe Gen 5.

  • High-speed interface characterization

  • Test automation expertise using Perl/Tcl/Python/LabView

  • Strong analytical skills for test creation and debug

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Must excel in a dynamic team working environment

  • Must be a self-starter and be able to independently drive tasks to completion

  • Leadership and mentoring skills an asset

  • Graphics experience a plus

academic credentials:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering Preferred
